Thought for Week beginning Sunday 19th February 2012
Everything is beautiful

I was asked to do a piece of work last week. When I was done, I sent the graphic design off for approval by email. I was expecting an email back telling me if the work was up to standard or otherwise. Instead, I got a phone call. Amidst the many things that were discussed, my Pastor, who assigned the work to me, said "it's beautiful." For a moment after he said that, my brain went into a freeze. I could not comprehend the next few words he spoke because my mind was somewhere else. Suddenly, I was 10 again listening to my dad telling me how everything I did was 'beautiful'.

My dad is a sucker from showering praises. The man always made me feel I was good at everything I did. The most memorable word I would always remember him for is 'beautiful.' If I served him a glass of water, he would look at the glass and tell me that it's beautiful. I went to the British High Commission once to apply for my Passport. There was a massive queue waiting to be served, of which I was now at the end. A lady who worked there pulled me out of the crowd for some reason and took me to the front to be served. When I got back home that day, I told my dad what happened. Guess what Mr Olusanya senior said? He said that the woman most have been impressed by my good looks and coolness - so much so that she could not resist talking to me. I was in my 20's at the time - but my God! - What more of a confidence boost does anyone need?

Anyway - I love my dad for the way he's made me feel over the years. I learnt long time ago that people will not necessarily remember what you've done for them. Rather, you will always be remembered by how you've made them feel. I will be giving the man a ring today - just to tell him how much I love him - but more importantly to thank him.
